BRAZILIAN STRAIGHTENING: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AT-HOME KITS

BRAZILIAN STRAIGHTENING: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AT-HOME KITS
Índice

Capitalizing on the immense popularity of Brazilian straightening, numerous brands have entered the at-home market. Names like Jean-Louis David, John Frieda, Kéraline, Jean Marc Maniatis, and Activilong are among those offering DIY kits. But do these products deliver the same reliability and effectiveness as professional salon treatments? In this article, I'll delve into these questions.

For several months now, at-home Brazilian straightening kits have been proliferating on the shelves of our supermarkets. Driven by our curiosity and low prices, we are obviously tempted to buy them. Indeed, a home straightening kit costs from 10€ for the cheapest to 75€ for the most expensive. Whereas if you decide to go to a salon, your straightening will cost you an average of 300€. Economically speaking, it's better to opt for at-home kits. But is it really cost-effective? Will our hair still be on our heads once the product is applied? To answer these questions, it's important to know a few basic rules.

HOW TO DO YOUR OWN STRAIGHTENING AT HOME?

I'm not telling you anything new by saying that it's harder to do your own Brazilian straightening alone than with the help of a professional hairdresser. Indeed, during application, it's important to distribute the product evenly over the entire head. Two extra hands are therefore welcome. You can ask a friend, sister, or your mother for help to optimize the result, even if the only truly essential tools are a comb and your hands. Note that it's more complicated to perform Brazilian straightening when you have long hair. The longer your hair, the more you'll need to ensure the product is perfectly distributed along the entire length, and therefore, the more difficult it will be. Don't they say you have to suffer to be beautiful? Small tip: to optimize at-home permanent straightening, create a middle part down to the nape of your neck. Then apply the product strand by strand, bringing the hair forward. As in a salon, apply the product approximately 1 cm from the roots.

ARE THESE KITS SUITABLE FOR MY HAIR?

Unfortunately, Brazilian straightening is not suitable for all hair types. It proves to be more effective on wavy, curly, colored, and highlighted hair. The same applies logically to at-home straightening. However, if you have fine, fragile, or damaged hair, Brazilian straightening is strongly discouraged.

DO AT-HOME KITS LAST AS LONG AS SALON BRAZILIAN STRAIGHTENING?

Obviously, at-home straightening doesn't last as long as a salon treatment. However, it's a good interim treatment between two straightenings. To optimize the effectiveness and duration of your straightening, there's no secret: you need to maintain it. To do this, use products designed for straightened hair, such as straightening prolonging treatments. Don't forget to use flat irons when applying the product; the result will be even more effective.
