My Afro Week, Celebrating Afro Culture!

Índice

Chances are, if you've ever searched for an event celebrating Afro culture, you've already come across the essential My Afro Week. Say goodbye to boredom! With My Afro Week's packed schedule, you'll be spoiled for choice. But who's the mastermind behind this amazing concept?

Who are the founders? Introduce yourselves? Your background?

Hello everyone, we are Joëlle and Corinne, long-time friends with somewhat similar backgrounds. And both passionate about Afro culture in the broad sense.

J: I went to business school and specialized in luxury management and marketing. I am originally from Zambia and France.

C: As for me, I went to university for Information Communication and finished with a business school degree, specializing in marketing and advertising. I am originally from Togo and Ivory Coast.

How was the My Afro Week Blog born?

We used to attend Afro events; it was somewhat part of our lifestyle. One day we were talking about the popularity and multitude of Afro blogs on hair, beauty, or fashion. We also wanted to highlight the Afro-Caribbean community. What better way than to create a blog that relays all Afro events, bringing together the talents and personalities who make this community vibrant. That's how My Afro Week was born.

Your blog proves that Afro culture is very present, has that always been the case?

This Afro culture is more present than ever ! There are more and more events and actions to promote this culture across all fields. When we started the blog 3 years ago, it was to offer a promotional platform that appealed to young Afro generations because there was a lack of them. Afro culture is increasingly present but, above all, is better and better represented. My Afro Week has become an essential blog for everyone interested in Afro culture! You enjoy keeping us informed of all its events.

Is this an activity that takes up more space than at the beginning of your adventure, or does it remain a complementary activity?

Managing My Afro Week takes up more and more time, which is why the team has grown over the past 2 years. Starting with two members, we are now 8 (including us). The pace is almost frantic. The blog still remains a complementary activity (our second job), but we always need reinforcements to keep it going.

Latest news, I heard you wanted to evolve the My Afro Week blog and turn it into a real website, tell me more about this project?

Indeed, a blog is no longer enough for all the content we have to relay. We have therefore launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise 5000 euros for the launch of the Myafroweek.COM website and other projects with it; this campaign will end on July 7th. What advice would you give to people who want to start a blog?

To do it out of passion, to dare, and never give up. Also, to meet people because they can be a great source of inspiration and also great support.

What event should not be missed in the coming weeks?

For this summer, don't miss the Black Movies Summer Festival, which takes place in various locations in the capital until July 27th. For other events, we invite you to subscribe to our weekly newsletter to stay informed of good deals every week!
